Dodge the Draft. When the temperature starts to drop, test your window seals by holding a lighted match to the edge of the window. If the flame waivers or is extinguished, your seal is compromised and will need weather stripping (available at your local hardware store).

A little off the top. Trees are often the cause of many roofing problems. Falling branches can scratch your roof’s surface and puncture holes in your shingles. Loose leaves accumulate quickly in gutters and block water flow. Trimming overgrowth will help reduce this damage and expose your roof to more sunlight and air circulation (shady roofs are more prone to mold and fungus).

Brush-up on your Touch-up. Always keep leftover paint and store it in a cool, dry place. Inevitably, you will need to do touch-ups, and it’s best to use the original paint (Sherwin Williams recommends reducing the mixture by 10% to 15% with the reducer recommended on the can). If your paint was applied with a roller, use a small trim roller instead of a brush.

When your painting job has been completed, check with your DIXON representative for recommendations on how and where to keep the leftover paints and supplies.

While siding is known for withstanding the elements, you may find some areas with paint damage that need your attention. Remove any damaged, chipped or cracked paint. Prior to repainting your siding make sure that the surface area is cleaned and sanded. Repaint immediately using a 100% acrylic paint.
